BHS COURSES

stage 1 horse care (Silver AWARD)

This 8 week Horse Care course is a great introduction to the BHS Pathway. However, you do not need to take the assessment to benefit from this informative, hands-on course.

It is the first step on the professional ladder but, more than that, teaches the essential basics for anyone who wants to own or care for horses properly.

This practical, hands-on course gives a thorough grounding in all aspects of daily care. It covers feeding, health, tack and equipment, behaviour, handling and stable/field care. In fact, everything you need to keep your horse happy and healthy.

It is suitable for ages 14 and upwards and although it is a foundation course, some familiarity with horses is needed.

If you are up to standard during the course, you can automatically achieve your Silver Award in Horse Care.  If there are a few areas that need brushing up to achieve the standard, you can book extra assessments after the course.

Cost: £130.00 for non-members         £115.00 for members

COURSE DATES:  Wednesday evenings commencing 29th September 2021

SILVER RIDE OUT AWARD

This new BHS Award replaces the previous "Ride Safe" course and has been updated to reflect the changing nature of riding out.

It is a requirement for anyone wishing to take the BHS Stage 2 Riding Assessment but more than that, it gives practical and sensible training for riders aged 11 years and upwards to keep them safe on the roads.

This award is arranged individually, although we do offer shared training if we have a number of people interested.

It takes 3, 1 hour sessions to complete the award.

Cost:      £90    (one to one)

                 £75 (shared)

SILVER RIDing award

This completes the set of Sliver Awards to give direct entry into the Stage 2 Assessment.

We offer this on a one to one basis and it is conducted during normal riding lessons with Carys or Mary.

Cost:     normal lesson prices

progressive riding tests

There are six tests in this series covering riding and horse care and they are designed to get progressively harder, with Test 1 covering basics such as mounting, correct position and application of the aids to Test 6 with has walk, trot and canter without stirrups.

The horse care sections begin with basic handling and progresses to feeding rations, health care and tack fitting.

Once all 6 test are completed, you will receive a BHS certificate and direct entry into Stage 2, provided you have also completed the Silver Ride Out Award.

All training and assessment for the PRTs is conducted one to one and it is especially suited to riders who have a regular slot here as it can be done through lessons very easily, with bolt on horse care sessions to suit.

The added advantage is that you do not need to be a BHS member to take the PRTs.
